Sri Lanka has long been a priority destination for direct investment from India. Over 50% of all Indian investments in SAARC countries are located in Sri Lanka. Of the joint ventures, 54% are in Sri Lanka. The principal sectors that have attracted Indian investment are steel, cement, rubber products, tourism, computer software, IT-training and other professional services. Further impetus to Indian investment to Sri Lanka has been the implementation Indo-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement.
